Homemade Gifts

We love the idea of making something for loved ones at Christmas time. Homemade gifts are often a more sustainable option, as well as being chock-full of love and thoughtfulness.

Sacha’s restorative lip balm is the perfect salve for sun-kissed lips, perfect for gifting in an upcycled jar or even one of our tins!

Ingredients:

  • 16g beeswax (locally-sourced is best for quality, restorative properties, animal welfare and sustainability. It’s also a fun way to get to know your local beekeeping community!)
  • 7g red raspberry seed oil (jojob or grapeseed oils will also work and are easier to source).
  • 13g organic coconut oil
  • 13g sweet almond oil
  • 3-6 drops of your chosen essential oil (Sacha recommends carrot seed, roman chamomile or rose geranium for their skin healing properties. Peppermint is nice for a little lip tingle and invigorating smell. Avoid any citrus  essential oil, like lemon or orange as they are photosensitive and may lead to burnt lips in the sun! Mix and match, but no more than 6 drops. )

To make:

Add all the ingredients apart from the essential oils into a heat-proof bowl, place in a bain-marie of boiling water and heat until melted and mixed together.

Test the consistency by taking a little out and letting it cool, or place it in the fridge to speed the cooling process up. If you’d like your balm a little more waxy then add more beeswax; to make softer and more easily spreadable add sweet almond oil.

Take off heat and then add the essential oils last (avoid cooking the essential oils so they don’t lose their potency).

This will make ~ 50g of lip balm.

Happy gifting from the heart 💛✨

Windburn or sunburn?
Windburn or sunburn?

April 14, 2021

Basically, windburn can occur anytime when you’re outside in cold winds with low humidity (windburn doesn’t tend to happen in warm weather). One theory is that the wind strips your skin of its protective oils, leaving it vulnerable to inflammation. Low humidity also dries out your skin, which means its natural defences are weakened.
How to create an autumn skincare regime
How to create an autumn skincare regime

March 05, 2021

When it comes to skin, the changing of the seasons is always a bit of a precarious time as your epidermis adjusts to different conditions. Autumn can be the time when all the carefree fun, late nights and long beach days of summer finally catch up with us. The air becomes drier and less humid; the weather windier. Combined with the increased time we might spend near heaters, this whole thing is a recipe for dehydrated and dull-looking skin.
