DIY natural oatmeal face scrub for yummy skin. A close-up image of oats strewn across a light-coloured surface, with a round gold spoon placed on top.

We absolutely lurrrve this face scrub. Made with oats, almond oil and spices, it will leave your skin looking, smelling and feeling utterly delicious. And the best thing about it is that it's homemade using ingredients you probably already have lying around (meaning a lower carbon footprint, less packaging and fewer nasty chemicals).

We've created two DIY face scrub recipes — one for sensitive skin and one that's a more powerful exfoliator. Find whichever works best for you and see how your skin responds. We also like using this oatmeal scrub to help take off our surf zinc post-sesh. (Of course, if you have any skin conditions, it's probably best to speak to a skincare professional about your specific requirements before starting a new skincare regime).

Use as a face scrub or place in the fridge and apply as cooling face mask after a long day outdoors.

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup sweet almond oil (olive oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil if you live in warmer climates!)
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Combine all mix in blender to chop up oats (yup, it's that simple!).

For a tougher exfoliant or after a long hike, add:

(This is for a deep scrub, not an everyday scrub).

2 tablespoons of castor sugar
2 tablespoons of polenta

Windburn or sunburn?
Windburn or sunburn?

April 14, 2021

Basically, windburn can occur anytime when you’re outside in cold winds with low humidity (windburn doesn’t tend to happen in warm weather). One theory is that the wind strips your skin of its protective oils, leaving it vulnerable to inflammation. Low humidity also dries out your skin, which means its natural defences are weakened.
How to create an autumn skincare regime
How to create an autumn skincare regime

March 05, 2021

When it comes to skin, the changing of the seasons is always a bit of a precarious time as your epidermis adjusts to different conditions. Autumn can be the time when all the carefree fun, late nights and long beach days of summer finally catch up with us. The air becomes drier and less humid; the weather windier. Combined with the increased time we might spend near heaters, this whole thing is a recipe for dehydrated and dull-looking skin.
